Valkyrien Allstars - Valkyrien Allstars

The Valkyrjen Restaurant is one of the few traditional pubs at Majorstua in Oslo that has stood its ground against the multitude of trendy cafés that have appeared during the past ten years. And "Valka" has now also acquired its own in-house band - a Hardanger fiddle trio who are just as solid down-to-earth as their hangout.
 
The hayfield music of the Valkyrien Allstars nearly melts their fiddle strings, and their singing turns the beer in the barrels a darker brown. Based on Norwegian traditional folk music, their melodies have echoes of several different genres and styles. Together these three young but proficient instrumentalists have created a completely new sound, with collective improvisation as their trademark. In 2006 they won the Grappa Talent Award, and their debut album has at last been launched.
