Danser i gammel stil etter Hans O. Gomnæs

The renowned traditional musician and composer Hans O. Gomnæs (1811–1900) was born in Hole, but spent much of his life in Modum, Buskerud. He left behind an extensive repertoire of traditional dance music, written down between 1850 and 1863. From the late 1970s and well into the 1990s, Gomnæs’s music was presented on NRK by Modum gammeldansgruppe and Rudolf Lunds kvintett. Excerpts from these radio broadcasts form the basis of the new album, Danser i gammel stil etter Hans O. Gomnæs (“Dances in the Old Style after Hans O. Gomnæs”). The release is accompanied by a booklet telling the story of Gomnæs and the musical culture of which he was an important part. The album continues the record label Aksent’s work to preserve and present the music of Norwegian rural composers of the 19th century. The album is produced by Håvard Svendsrud and is a collaboration between Aksent and NRK.
