Øystein Sevåg - The Red Album
Øystein Sevåg - The Red Album
Violin meets didjeridoo meets progrock quartet dealing with Sevåg’s polyphonic compositions. His Global House band, featuring Sara Övinge, Zotora Nygård, Petter Wettre, Ole Marius Melhuus, Andreas Bye, is going slightly bananas in new terrain.
Øystein Sevåg’s musical melting pot reaches its boiling point on this band-oriented recording. This album was recorded over just a few intense days, a process reflected in the album’s spontaneous energy. This was the most band-focused recording Sevåg had ever made to that date.
The Red Album draws on both jazz and classical traditions, while also continuing Sevåg’s exploration of the ambient soundscapes that have earned him international recognition. The music moves within the spectrum between Sevåg’s precisely defined compositions and the completely open improvisations shared among the musicians.
Alongside composer and pianist Øystein Sevåg, the ensemble features Petter Wettre (saxophone), Sara Övinge (violin), Andreas Bye (drums), Ole Marius Melhuus (bass and cello), and Zotora Nygård (didgeridoo). Including a bonus track that was too wild for the Caravan album, delivered by Vinaccia, Aarset, Hofseth, Erlien and Sevåg.
